Quiche our new goodie

Often ignored and underrated, quiche is an especially tasty and crowd-pleasing dish for a big brunch, it's not exclusively limited to brunch, though; I’m sure many of us could eat quiche for breakfast, lunch, and dinner without ever growing tired of it. Quiche is also fantastic for other casual gatherings or special events like baby showers, bridal showers, tea parties, and so much more. If you haven’t had quiche lately, it is time to remedy that situation; you don't need to wait for an extraordinary occasion because Carmela Coffee Company has introduced quiche in its menu, bringing three different flavors that are to die for; ham and cheese, veggies and spinach.


But... Do you know what quiche is?

A quiche is essentially a tart made with pie crust and a creamy, savory custard filling made with eggs, heavy cream, whole milk, salt, and pepper. You can undoubtedly make a crust less quiche too if you prefer. The possibilities are endless, and the added ingredients are what will take a basic quiche recipe to the next level; those add-ins vary and can include cheese, meats, seafood, spices, and all kinds of vegetables. Changing up the quiche filling means that you can make it as many times as you want and never get bored since it never tastes the same. It can be served on its own or paired with a salad, soup, or some fruit. One of the most popular quiche recipes is Quiche Lorraine, it’s very versatile since it can be served for breakfast or brunch, and can be eaten hot or cold. It consists of a flaky pastry crust that's filled with cheese and bacon; it is the gold standard for quiche. Quiche is basically egg pie; I know it doesn't sound very appealing, but think of the main ingredient being milk/cream, not eggs. The texture of a perfect quiche is creamy and soft with a contrast that comes from its add-ins, whether it's ham, crispy bacon, or sautéed vegetables. Every bite is undeniable rich but has a smooth and delicate mouthfeel; it is moist and melts in your mouth.


We all have those days when we just can’t make it to Carmela Coffee Company for whatever reason, but yet we are craving one of our so loved treats from our favorite coffee shop. Today I want to share with you a super easy spinach cheddar quiche recipe for those days when you need something to please your taste buds that is not complicated and quick to cook.

Serves 6-8

Ingredients Store-bought frozen deep-dish pie shell 2 tablespoons olive oil 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 tablespoon shallot, minced 4 ounces baby spinach Freshly grated nutmeg, to taste Kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper, to taste 5 large eggs

3/4 cup milk 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Place frozen pie crust on a baking sheet and set aside. Heat oil in a large, non-stick skillet over moderate heat. Add garlic and shallot and sauté until soft. Add spinach, season with nutmeg, salt, and pepper, and cook until the spinach wilts down, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat. While the spinach mixture is cooling, beat eggs and milk in a large bowl. Stir in cheese. Place spinach mixture in the bottom of the pie crust, spreading it out in an even layer. Pour egg mixture on top and bake for 45-50 minutes, until eggs are set. Remove from the oven and let stand a few minutes before diving in.
